GBINIJE, Hon. Chief Patrick Aghogin

Hon. Chief Patrick Aghogin Gbinije who represents Ethiope South Constituency of Bendel State in the House of Representatives was born in September 1926 to the family of Pa Gbinije and Madam Oghenekevbe. The family hails from Okobia/Mereje in Bendel State. Hon. Gbinije's educational career began at the age of ten years at Baptist and later, Catholic School, Sapele from 1936 and 1942. With the successful completion of his elemen tary education in 1942, he took another pro gressive step by gaining admission to St. Gregory's College in Lagos in 1944. At the end of 1949, Hon. Gbinije obtained the Senior Cam bridge School Certificate and the London Matriculation which was so popular during the colonial era. Hon. Patrick Gbinije started his brilliant pro fessional career as a store-keeper with BEWAC and by dint of hard work rose to the status of Manager at the Warri branch of the organisa tion in 1955. Between 1955 and 1960, he worked with the U.A.C. Thereafter, Hon. Patrick became a dealer with Total Nigeria Limited and Niger Motors respectively. This was between 1963 and 1976. Again, he became a Director of Pagson Motors Limited and thus demonstrated "in an unequh/ocal manner the maxim that hum ble origin is no barrier to progress. He is a member of the Western Urhobo District Council, now Ethiope Local Governmeat, between 1955 and 1961. He was also chairman of Management Committee of Sapele Urban District Council from 1961 to 1963. An elected member of then Mid Western House of Assembly under the platform of the Mid Western Democratic Front, Hon. Patrick Gbini je had served in other various positions. In 1972, for instance, he was appointed Chair man, Ethiope Local Government and in 1975, he was appointed Chairman of the Develop ment Council for Ethiope Local Government with seven committees under its control. Not only that, Hon. Patrick later became a Coun cillor of Mereje ward —his very political base. A christian and married with ten children, Honourable Chief Patrick Aghogin Gbinije's match to progress culminated in his election io the House of Representatives and the Chair manship of the House Committee on Mines and Power at the end of 1979 general elections. Honourable Patrick Gbinije has travelled to the United Kingdom and Germany. His hobby is swimming.
