Honourable David Adeniyi Adelu was born in Ibadan, Oyo State on June 3, 1931. His late father Chief Joseph Alao Adelu, a tailor by pro fession, has six children while his mother Madam Olayinka Atoke Adelu, a trader, has two out of these children. As a boy, young David had his primary education at Harding Memorial School, Ibadan, from 1943-46, and at St. Paul's School, Yemetu, Ibadan, from 1947 — 1949. He proceeded to Ibadan Grammar School where he obtained his Cambridge School Certificate in the Second Division in 1954. Honourable Adelu joined the Civil Service in the former Wostern Region on 1st April, 1955 as a 3rd class clerk. In 1958, he passed the General Certificate of Education at the Advanced Level in British Constitution. He was promoted the same year to the grade of a second class clerk. Honourable Adelu did not rest on his oars. He passed the General Certificate of Education at the Advanced Level in 1958 in Economics and in 1964 he obtained a Diploma in Trade Union Management from the ICFTU. Honourable Adelu was promoted to the rank of a first class clerk in 1968, awarded a cer tificate in government accounts in 1969 and promoted to the rank of an assistant executive officer in 1970. In 1973, he was upgraded to the rank of an executive officer. The Public Service International awarded him a certificate in Union Organisation and Finance in 1974. In 1977 after a span of 20 years of meritorious service, he retired from the ser vice. Honourable Adelu was the secretary to the Nigerian Civil Service Union from 1962 —65. When he was transferred to Akure, he became the Chairman, Ondo Provincial Branch of the Nigerian Civil Service Union from 1965 —68. He served as the National Publicity Secretary, Nigerian Civil Service Union from 1973-77 and became a full-time paid secretary to the Union from 1977-79 in Oyo State. Honourable Adelu is the president of the Christian Social Felloship at St. Peters Church, Aremo Ibadan. He is also the Chairman Akaran Road Development Union — a community organisation for social and economic develop ment. He is a member of the Family Planning Council of Nigeria, the Vice Chairman of the Oyo State Branch of the Social Reformers Movement of Nigeria, Chairman of the steering committee of the Ibadan Goodwill Society, as well as the secretary to the Ibadan Divisional Branch of the Unity Party of Nigeria. He is a Christian. He is married to Mrs. Alice Adelu and they have' five children —Adekemi 12, Adedayo 10, Adekunbi 8, Adekunle 6, and Adenike4. He is a member of the Unity Party of Nigeria and represents the Ibadan East Constituency in the House of Representatives
