AGI, Hon. David Okwoche

Hon. David Okwoche Agi was born at Adum- Owo, Igede in Benue State in 1946. He had his primary education at the Methodist Senior Primary Schools at Amoka- Owo Igede and Ibilla Igede respectively. In 1963, he attended the Methodist Teacher's Training College, Oturkpo, from where he ob tained his Teacher's Grade II Certificate in 1967. In 1972, he attended the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and passed out in 1975 with a B.Sc. Honours degree in Social Sciences. (Pol.sc). Between 1968 and 1972, Mr. Agi served as Headmaster of the Senior Primary School, in Anchim, Ikachi and Ikwokwu —all in the Oju Local Government Area of Benue State. From 1975, the year he graduated from the University, Hon. Agi became an Adminstrative Officer and he rose within this cadre to the post of Acting Senior Inspector in the National Youth Service Corps Secretariat of Benue State. Hon. Agi became involved in politics in 1978 and in 1979, he won election into the House of Representatives on the platform of the National Party of Nigeria. He represents the Oju Federal Constituency in Benue State. IN the course of his career, Hon. Agi has written many articles on religious and political issues. His view of life is that "morality" should spring from law which itself should be substan tially interpreted from morality. Issues should be reduced, as much as possible, to their objec tives string-ends, and all issues decided on their respective merits and causal circumstances. People or issues should not be presummed or taken for granted. Truth, at all cost, must be allowed to prevail. "Fairness and frankness should be the basis for all decisions, thus building up an awareness that makes premordial loyalties yeild ways to national ones. Then the citizens of this country will be able to think first the objective rather than the personality of our situations, posi tions, or office". Hon. Agi, whose hobbies include volleyball, games, debates and documentation, is married to former Miss Elizabeth Okem and they both have three children.
