AKANDE, Hon. Debo

Hon. Debo Akande was born on the 9th of June 1938 at Ibadan. He is a christian by religion. He is one of the seven children of the Late Chief Joe Akande. His mother, Mrs. Bamidele Akande, has two children. He got married to his wife, Dr. Jadesola 0. Akande on the 31st of August 1963. They have one child. , Hon Akande attended the following educa tional institutions: Sabo School, Ibadan (1947-49); Ibadan Boys High School (primary) (1949-51); St. Gregory's College, Lagos (1952 57)'; Westminster College, London (1960-61); University College, London (1961-64); Inner Temple (1961-64). His educational and professionalqualifications include: West African School Certificate-Grade I, LLB (Hons) London; Barrister-at-Law. . ' . Mr. Akande has been engaged in private legal practice since 1965. Nevertheless, he has served in various capacities such as a director on the board of Barclays Bank of Nigeria (now Union Bank of Nigeria Ltd.,) from July 1977 to September 1979 and a member of the Federal Republic Accounts Committee from October 1978 to September 1979 Mr. Akande was the Social Secretary of the nc^SCa?nCh °f thG Ni0erian Bar Association (1967-69) and an executive committee member of the Nigerian Bar Association (1971-79) He was the General Secretary of the Nigeria'Bar Association from August 1977 to August 1979. His other activities in the legal profession in clude membership of the Council of Legal Education (1975-79); Legal Aid Council (August 1977-August 1979); International Bar Associa tion (since 1972); the World Peace through Law since 1974 and Assistant Secretary-General of the African Bar Association. 1977-81. Hon. Akande is a member of the Unity Party of Nigeria and represents Ibadan North Consti tuency in the House of. Representatives.
