was born on the 8th of August, 1939 at Efa, Etinan Local Government Area in Cross River State. He was greatly influenced in his early life by his father, Rev. Johnson Idang, a disciplinarian born on 20th December, 1910 in Efa, Etinan, L.G.A., and Madam Cecilia Idang born on 15th June, 1921 at Ikot, Iboh, Dr. Gordon Johnson Idang is one of twelve children of his father. His mother had four children. He attended the University of Ibadan from October 1962 and passed his B.Sc (Honours) degree in Political Science in June, 1965. He went to New Government State Univer sity, U.S.A. for his M.A. and Ph.D., in Political Science from June 1967 to January, 1970, and later to the Princeton University, Princeton in New Jersey from September 1972 to January, 1978. He was a Lecturer in Political Science at the University of Ibadan from September 1968 to June 1974. He was made a Senior Lecturer and act-' g Head of Department of Political Science, i arsity of Nigeria, Nsukka (Calabar Cam- pus), from July 1975 to October 1975. He became the commissioner for Information and Cultural Affairs in the Cross River Siate Government from November 1975 to August 1976 before returning to head the Department of Political Science, University of Calabar, from September 1976 to December 1978. Honourable Gordon Johnson Idang married Mrs. Eno Bassey Idang on 16th June, 1971, and they have two children. Dr. Idang has written one book tittled "Nigeria Internal Politics and Foreign Policy, Ibadan University Press, 1973" He has travell ed widely. Among the places visited are U.K. U.S.A., France, Germany, Italy, Canada, Morocco, Ghana, and Liberia. His hobbies are lawn tennis and gardening. He won a seat in the House of Represen tatives on the platform of the Great Nigeria Peoples Party.
