represents the Ihitte/Uboma Constituency in the House of Representatives as a member of the Nigeria peoples party State, one of the three children of Mr. Richard Anukwuem, a farmer, and Madama Rebecca Anukwuem. Hon Anukwuem attended the C.M.S. Central School, Umuihi in 1935. He finished his elementary education at the C.M.S. Central School Nsukka in 1941. Hon George Iheanetu Anukwuem worked in the Nigerian Railways until 1955 when he resigned and established a Building Company and a Maternity Hospital at Enugu. Mr. George Anukwuem has held several positions in his working career. He was the Chairman of the Finance and Education Committee of the Enugu Mun.c.pal Council from 1964-1966. He was the President of the Ih.tte Youths Association from 1954 - 1960 and the President of Ihitte Development Union from 1960 - 1962 Hon. Anukwuem has been the President of Umuihi Town Union since 1974. Once nominated Councillor of the Et.t. Local Government Area of Imo State, Hon. Anukwuem has travelled extensively to many European countries and loves football and music. The Honorable member is married to the former Jemima Adanma Nwokonna and Angelina Chiruruokwu Ezeigbo and has seventeen chidlren.
