AKPABIO, Hon. Michael John

Barrister Michael John Akpabio who represents Uyo Constituency, Cross River State in the House of Representativeswas born on 24th May, 1942 at Itoko, Ibesikpo, Uyo. He is a member of the G.N.P.P. During his early life, he was greatly influenc ed by the Christian religion and the school he attended. He is a protestant of the Lutheran Church. Hon. Akpabio is one of the nine children of Chief John Akpan Umo Etok, a retired farmer and Madam Lilly E. Okon Nung Okon, both of Ibesikpo in the Cross River State. Barrister Akpabio started his primary educa tion at Bocler Memorial School in 1951 and ob tained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1954. He attended the Lutheran High School, Obot Idim Ibesikpo in Uyo from 1956 to 1959 and pased his West African School Certificate in 1960. He passed his G.C.E. Advanced Level in 54 1967 and entered the University of Ife for the Bachelor of Laws degree which he passed in 2nd Class Lower Division in 1971. He obtained his Bar Final Certificate in 1972and later joined the Civil Service as a State Counsel in the Ministry of Justice, Cross River State. He was promoted Senior State Council and worked as a Senior Magistrate from 1976 to 1977. He went back to private practice from 1977 to 1979 before contesting elections to the House. He is married to former Miss Eno Hanson Inyang and they have four children. Hon. M. J. Akpabio is interested in football, tennis and photography.
