Hon. Pius Awunah was born on the 11th of July, 1939. He hails from Awuna Chiba village - Gaambe (Tyoshin), Benue State. He is one of the 56 children of his father, Mr. Awunah Chiba, a farmer and clan head. His mother is Madam Nyiku Awunah. He got married to his wife Mrs. Helen Alueshima Awunah in 1970 and he has six children. Hon. Pius Awunah attended a number of educational institutions among which were: C.R.I. School Awuna (1949); St. Theresa School, Naka; St. John's School, Gboko (1955-56); Medical Auxiliaries Training School, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (1957-59); and Kaduna Polytechnic (1975). Hon. Awunah has the following educational qualifications:- First School Leaving Certificate (1956); Medical Auxiliaries Diploma - 1959; Business Manage ment and Accounting Certificate (1975). On Successful completion of his course, Hon. Awunah was posted to Bauchi to work as a Rural Health Assistant Grade I. In 1963, he was promoted first class rural health assistant. From 1965 to 1968, he was seconded to Bauchi —Borno railwayconstruc tion works as medical officer in charge with the rank of Rural Health Superintendent. He established his own health clinics in 1968 known as 'Padopads' and in 1973, he founded the Padopads Harmony Secondary School in Makurdi. He is also the proprietor of Ternamdoo Nursery School which was opened in 1975. Mr. Awunah attended a Man '0' War Bay course at Shere Hills Jos, in 1975. He is a life member of the Nigerian Red Cross Society. He is also Assistant Commissioner for Scouts in Benue State. He won a seat in the House of Representatives from the Gwer West Consti tuency, Benue State on the ticket of the Na tional Party of Nigeria. He takes interest in reading and farming.
