IBRAHIM, (Sir) Kashim

teacher, first indigenous Governor of North ern Nigeria, Chancellor University of Lagos; Born in Maiduguri, Borno State 1910. Education: Katshina Training College; spent the early part of his life as a teacher, appointed a visiting teacher, 1933; founder mem ber of the banned Northern People's Congress (NPC) 1951 elected mem ber of the Northern House of Assem bly and the House of Representa tives, serving as a minister both at the Federal and Regional levels — he was the North Regional Minister of Social Development and Survey; later returned to work for the Bornu Native Authority; served in the Nigerian Senate; was chairman of the former Nigerian College of Arts, Science and Technology and later chairman of the Provisional Council of Ahmadu Bello University; appointed Governor Northern Nigeria, 1962, was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II the same year; when the Army took over power in January 1966 he became Adviser to the Military Governor Northern Region; appointed Chancellor University of Lagos. Married with children; Address: Maiduguri, Borno State.
