HewasMember British Empire ( MBE) • Officer of the Federal Republic (OFR) • Awarded Queen's Coronation Medal by Queen Elizabeth 11. 1953 IIon LLD , Doctor of Law, University of Ibadan. 1965 Today, the first Advanced Teachers College of Education in the whole former Eastern Region of Nigeriaat Owerri was named after Dr Alvan Ikoku. - thus the presentAlvan Ikoku College of Education was named after him in 1972 as a mark of appreciation and honour to Dr Alvan Ikoku who contributed much to thedevelopment of education inAfrica.Twoof his prominent sons, became Iconson theirown rights the LateS. G. Ikokuwasan economistand a prominent politician while the other son. ProfessorChimere Ikoku. was former Vice-Chancellorof the University of Nigeria Nsukka before he was killed by armed robbers after his retirement. Alvan Ikoku was a great ICON. He died in 1971, a year after the War.
