MAGAJIN GARINZAZZAU, FIRST INDIGENOUS ADMINISTRATOR OFKADUNA. He was born in 1888, in Zaria, grandson of Mallam Musa theflag bearerof Shehu Usman Dan Fodiyo. He belonged to theMallawa ruling house of Zaria. After first completing his Qur'anic Studies, he became oneof thefirst Northerners to have Western Education. He was in the Kano Provincial School (the 6 on the register)from 1903 to 1908. He was thefrrstHeadmaster of Zaria Provincial School (now Alhudahuda College)from 1908 to 1910;First Headmaster, Bauchi Middle School (now Sambo College) from 1910 to 1916. He was appointed Distria Head of Jaji in 1916 by Sarkin Za^au Alu dan Sidi where he initiated the building ofa guest house in 1954 which was later transformed into the Command and Staff College Jaji. From 1924 to 1937 he was the D.Hof Sabon Gari Zaria where he built elementary schools and establishedMuchia andDogon Bauchi Settlements. In 1937, Mallam Aminu Sambo was appointed District Head of Kaduna and given the title of Magagjn Garin Kaduna traditional ruler of Kaduna who created Tudun Wada Unguwan Shanu, Unguwan Sunusi, Abakpa, Kakuri Gwari and Tudun Nupawa. He also planned out Kaduna creating Sardauna Crescent, Maiduguri Road, BakoriRoad and Constitution Road, planting trees to beautify the town. In 1948, the King of England George, awarded him a Certificateof honourforallthese achievements. He was also responsible for establishing schools in Tudun Wada in 1940, Maiduguri Road in 1958 and Sabon Gari in 1961. In 1956, Muhammadu Aminu Sambo became thefrrst Northerner to be the Administrator of the Kaduna LocalAuthority Governmentandat the same time theDistrict Head. He was made a memberof the British Empire MBE in 1954 and conferred with the O.B.E in 1956. He died in 1961.
