OBANDE, Mr. Jacob Cheogbu MP

Assembly 1951 -1954. He wasa memberof Idoma Local Government Councilfrom 19541956: Mr. J.C Obande served the country in different capacities. He was at various times Director, Nigerian Hotels Ltd, member, Nigerian Ports Authority. Executive Member of the Nigerian Branch of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association; member, Executive Committee of the Red Cross, Benue Branch, and member, Idoma District Council. Before his appointment asMinisterof Statein the Officeof the Prime Ministerin 1960, he was the Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister. In the same regime, he later servedas the Federal Ministerof Establishmenttill1966 when the government was overthrown following a coup de 'tat. He also servedasMinisterforMinesandPower, WorksandEconomic Development. He wasa memberofNigerian Parliamentary Delegation on EconomicTourof the Worldin 1963. At home,J.C Obande was the Ochojo of Igumale ndthe Itodoof Idomaland. His services were recalledin the Second Republic when he was made the Chairman of theNational Party ofNigerian (NPN) which won both the Federal and Benue State seatsof the Chief Executives.
