An embodiment of knowledge, integrity, humility and intellect, he is a man gifted with ideas. He is noted to have ideas that could pull this country out of economic woods and as one of die nation's shining stars in economics"and banking, he has not been found wanting. He is known to have chunked out papers and publications which enunciated impeccable ideas that have accounted for his headship and membership of different Federal Government panels and committees. For instance he was a member of the Vision 2010 Committee set up by the Sani Abacha administration to provide a blue print for economic development of the Nation beginning from 2010. Although the report of that Committee is yet to see the light of day. Dennis Odife was a force to be reckoned with in that Committee. He headed the committee, that reformed the present Nigerian Stock Exchange to this its enviable position it occupied in the world. Stock Market.
Education and Qualifications Obtained • Had his secondary education at Edo College Benin. 1959-1963. obtained W.A.S.C in Division One. • Attended Kings College Lagos for Advanced levels, obtained a Sound Higher School Certificate (H.S.C) 1965 • Gained admission at University of Lagos but was truncated due to the Civil War • Went back as war ended to University of Lagos and earned a B.SC with Second Class Upper Division in Economics 1972 • Left for Overseas for further studies at Business College of Columbia University USA, ah: Faculty Prize for the Best all-round performance in the Faculty of Business Administration. 1972; made Dan's List for Outstanding Performance at the Graduate School of Columbia University, New York, tt: Ogbuefi Ezenwegbu iv: publ: The Challenge of Privatization, Amek Holding 1983. Understanding The Nigerian Stock Market Vantage, 1985; Privatization in Nigeria-Concept, Issues and Modalities Alkcstis 1988 earned a Masters Degree (MBA) with bias in Finance and Management Sciences 1974 • Earned a Doctorate Degree (Ph.D) in Micro Finance at the same University Scholastic Awards and Prizes • In school, he exhibited exceptional academic brilliance that necessitated his bagging various awards and prizes • He was on the Dean's list of the Columbia University in 1974 • Won the Best Student Prize at the Faculty of Business Administration University of Lagos, 1967 • Won Prizes in Drama, English and History at King's College Lagos, all in 1965. Work Experienceand EmploymentHistory • Upon graduation started out as Lecturer, University of Lagos, 1972 • Worked for sometime in USA upon attainment of higher educational advancement • Then returned home and become self-employed, running his own business • Founded the Centre-point Investment Pic, 1979 which he built into a highly respected financial institution in Nigeria • Followed this up with the establishment of Centre-Point Securities Ltd, 1985 with the aim of providing financial services not provided by the investment arm He again spearheaded the establishment of Centre-Point Merchant Bank Ltd, 1988 and subsequently became its Chief Executive Officer and Technical Partner • The 2005 re-capitalization and merger exercise saw Centre-Point Merchant Bank into a Mega Bank, Unity Bank Pic where he holds a top management position. Contributionsto National Development • He arranged the visit to Nigeria in 1992 of the delegation of Malaysian businessmen which was received by the G-15 and Head of State as the first delegation to Aso Villa • He also arranged several other delegations of businessmen and executives from China between 1992-93 and signed the first Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between NNPC and the Chinese before it became fashionable to do business with the Chinese • He was Consultant to the World Bank and International Finance Corporation (IFC) for the study on the review of the Nigerian Financial System/Capital Market in 1987. He has been consulting for UNITAR on Capital Market in Africa since 2001 • Federal Government initiated committees which he has served in include; the Sub-committee of the Technical Committee for Privatization and Commercialization (TCPC) for the Commercialization of Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, Federal Indirect Taxation (VAT) Committee that recommended the introduction of Value Added Tax (VAT) into Nigeria; Chairman, Presidential Panel on Monetization of Fringe Benefits in Nigeria (1992-93); Chairman, Panel on review of the Nigerian Capital Market (1996); Member, Steering Committee on the establishment of the Abuja Stock Exchange; Member, Vision 2010 Committee, among others • Currently, he is preoccupied with developing a unified model for the development of the Nation's economy and other African economies within the context of the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD). Membership ofProfessionalAssociations • Member, Nigerian Economic Society (NES) • Member, British Institute of Management (BIM) • Member, Institute of Management Consultants of Nigeria • Member, Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM). Publications • An intellectual in his own right and a prolific writer he had authored about 10 books and the eleventh one titled "Collectively Guilty" had just been released into the market • He has to his credit many published scholarly articles and has presented numerous papers at various Seminars, Conferences and Workshops.
