Taught as a missionary teacher 1931. • Staff of Central School Abagana Dennis Memorial Grammar School (DMGS) Onitsha 1933. He was one of the African Teachers at DMGS • Worked briefly in West African Pilot; Won the College 1931 Annual Prize with the Book Aggrey of Africa.
National Council of Nigeria and Cameroon ( NCNC); Elected into the Eastern House of Assembly and served as the Minister of Finance; Helped in the formation of the African Students Association of America and Canada, 1941 and became its First President; Was one of the Official Delegates to London Constitutional Conference in 1947; crusader for African Nationalism and political independence
The Giant Oji Memorial Centre- Specialist Hospital at Ndi-Akeme Ndizuogu was built in his memory
He propound the philosophy of Boycott. According to him Africans should “boycott all boycottable” European materials and property in order to allow the Africans develop their own original and indigenous materials. Popularly known as “The Boycott King”
Wrote a pungent article against the Coal Miners in 1949 and was fined £40 for what the British Colonial Government called Seditious article. He was a very upright and hard working nationalist. He died suddenly probably of exhaustion or heart attack after a hectic day in the office. Mr. Mbonu Ojike will be remembered as one of the foremost Nationalists and clean Nigerian Politicians who did not betray the cause of freedom of their people. He was a true patriot.
