Oba of Benin, born June 24,1923 to Oba Akenzua II who passed away ifl 1978. Education: Government , * (Primary) School, Benin City (1929- 38), Edo CoUege, 193941; Govern ment College Ibadan, 194245; cap tain of the school's football team in his last year at school, (1945); on scholarship to the Higher College, Yaba 1946 to read Arts; proceeded to England in 1947 and in 1948 en rolled to read Law at the King's College Cambridge, and finished in 1951; played football for Cambridge Univeristy; later sent to do the Devon shire course for British Administrative Officers; returned to Nigeria in 1952; and was appointed Assistant Admini strative officer; in 1954 regional i administration was introduced and he remained in the then Eastern Regional * Administrative Service, Enugu; also worked in other parts of the Eastern Region including Ahoada; rose to the rank of acting Permanent Secretary in various ministries in the region; transferred to the Federal Service in 1965 as Deputy Permanent Secretary; pro moted substantive Permanent Secre tary in 1968; Ministries he headed included the Federal Ministries of Mines and Power and of Health; as permanent secretary, Federal Ministry of Health, was chairman of various boards including the Boards of Gover nors of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, and University College Hos pital, Ibadan; was also chairman of Board of Management of the National Electric Power Authority when he was Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Mines and Power. Prince Akenzua retired voluntarily from the Public Service in 1974; since retire ment, served briefly as a State Com missioner of Finance in Bendel State in 1975; representative of Gulf Oil Company in Bendel State; Chairman of Tate and Lyle Suga Co. Ltd., etc. Crowned Oba Erediauwa of Benin on Friday, March 23, 1979; married and has many children including the heir-apparent, Prince Ehenede a lawyer.
