Remi Oyo was born in 1954 in Ilorin, Kwara State, north central Nigeria. She attended the University of Lagos earning a bachelor's degree in Mass Communication and Journalism. She was the spokesperson to chief Olusegun Obasanjo, the former president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (2003-2007). She died in the United Kingdom on October 1, 2014, after losing a battle with cancer She was laid to rest at the Yaba Cemetery, Lagos Oluremi Oyo OON (12 October 1952 – 1 October 2014) was a Nigerian veteran journalist and former managing director of News Agency of Nigeria and presidential assistant on media to former President Olusegun Obasanjo. She attended St. James’ Catholic Primary School in Ilorin and St. Louis Secondary School in Bompai, Kano State. She attended the University of Lagos earning a bachelor's degree in Mass Communication and Journalism.[3] She got a post graduate Diploma in International Relations at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs. She further obtained a Master’s degree in International Relations at the University of Kent, Canterbury in the United Kingdom.[4] She was appointed Senior Special Assistant (Media and Publicity) to President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2003. She was the spokesperson to chief Olusegun Obasanjo, the former president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (2003-2007) She served in that capacity until May 2007. Oyo was appointed the Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria in July 2007.[5][6] Ojo was not a member of any gender-based journalism organisations. She was of the view that one’s professional actions and professional conduct would speak for the person regardless of whether the person is a male or a female. She always addresses herself as a ‘pressman’.

She was a recipient of the National Council of Catholic Women Organisation of Nigeria merit award.[13]
She was Fellow of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), and the Nigerian Institute of Public Administrators[4]
Oyo was awards the national award of Officer of the Order of Niger, OON, in 2006. [4]
Oyo was a Fellow of the Nigerian Guild of Editors and the first female president of the Guild, she also served as the Senior Special Assistant to President Olusegun Obasanjo for media and publicity
