SEKIBO DR. TARIBO JAMES

Honourable Dr. Taribo James Sekibo was born at Okrika near Port Harcourt in the Rivers State on the 28th of December, 1944. He is one of the two children of the late Sekibo, a teacher, and one of the four children of his mother Madam Nemi Okuchaba, a trader resideiftm Okirika. He went to the Boy's School, Okirika at the early age of six. In 1959 he obtained his first school leaving certificate with distinction. Dr. Sekibo attended the Okirika Grammar School, Okirika where he obtained a Division Two Pass in the West African School Certificate in 1963. He was admitted to the School of Agriculture Umudike, Umuahia where he studied for a few years. He later became the Agricultural Exten sion Officer in charge of Degema Province bet ween 1964 and 1967. He proceeded to the Federal School of Science, Lagos in 1967/68. At the end of 1968, Dr. Sekibo passed his General Certificate of Education at the advan ced level. Encouraged by his performance, he left for further studies in the Soviet Union. There in 1969 he was admitted to Kharkov State University, Kharkov, USSR. Dr. Sekibo studied the Russian language and was awarded M.B.B.S., M.D., thus qualifying as a Medical Practitioner. Honourable Sekibo returned home im mediately, and he was employed as a medical officer at the General Hospital, Port Harcourt. Dr. Sekibo was promoted to Grade I Medical Officer the following year. Iff 1977 he was elevated to the rank of Senior Medical Officer and took charge of the hospitals Mobile Clinic, covering Brass, Ogbia and Oporomoma Divisions. From 1978 to 1979, Honourable Sekibo serv ed as the Senior Medical Officer in charge of St. Michael's Clinic, Rumuomasi, Obio, Port Harcourt. During this same period, he was also placed in charge of the Nigerian Petroleum Refining Company Limited, Port Harcourt. Dr. Sekibo is a christian. He married Mrs. T. T. Sekibo in September 1977 and together they have a child — Dinah Tamuno Sekibo. Looking back at the life of Dr. Sekibo it would be observed that a great part of his medical career had been spent in the rural areas in the service of the sick. Honourable Sekibo himself attributed his inspiration for service to "the plight of the poor people with whom I grew up". Honourable Sekibo has visited the following countries: Great Britian, West Germany, Holland, Poland, East Germany, USSR, and Bulgaria. When not in his surgical theatre, Dr. Sekibo finds some time to swim, travel, or take photographs. He is a member of the National Party of Nigeria and represents Bonny II Constituency in the Rivers. -State in the House of Representatives.
