On August 1, 2018, Tambuwal defected from the All progressive's Congress (APC) back to the People's Democratic Party (PDP). Tambuwal picked the presidential nomination form of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) on August 30, 2018, hereby declaring his intention to run for the Office of the President in the 2019 general election.
