UDOM, Gabriel Emmanuel

Akwa Ibomites to rise to the faith of greatness. His Excellency Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel was born in Awa Iman, a City in Onna LGA of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. He attended his primary education around the same community in his early years. At completion, he went to Secondary Commercial School, Ikot Akpan Ishiet, Onna LGA of Akwa Ibom State, from where he obtained his West African Examination Council’s Certificate (WAEC). From there, he went on to attend the School of Arts and Science, Uyo, where he received his Advanced Certificate of Basic Studies (CBS) and a Higher School Certificate (HSC), and transferred to the University of Lagos, Nigeria, where he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, in 1988. He also attended the Advanced Management Program at INSEAD, France. He is a Chartered Accountant by profession and trained with PriceWaterhouseCoopers. He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Management. Before venturing into public service Mr. Udom Emmanuel was Executive Director on the Board of Zenith Bank from December 2006 until his appoitment as Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government. He also served as Audit Manager of Price Waterhouse Coopers. He has served as an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria as well as the Chief Financial Officer of Zenith Bank Plc. His Excellency Mr. Udom Emmanuel has served as Group Head of Income Optimization, Financial Control & Strategic Planning Department at Zenith Bank, where he also served as General Manager of Zenith Bank PLC. He joined Zenith in 1996 from Diamond Bank Limited and was the pioneer Manager of its Lagos Central Branch. He was in charge of the Telecommunications Sector, Income Optimization and Financial & Strategic Planning Group of Zenith Bank Plc. He has over seventeen years financial services experience. He served as an Executive Director of Zenith Bank Plc. He also doubled as Non-Executive Director, Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) from 2008 to the time of his appointment as Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government in 2013. He has served as a Director, Nigerian Inter-bank Settlement Systems (NIBBS) from 2009; Non-Executive Director, Zenith Bank, United Kingdom; Zenith Bank- Gambia; Zenith Bank-Sierra Leone; Zenith Insurance; Zenith Pensions and Custodian; Zenith Securities; Zenith Trustees and Zenith Registrars. He obeyed the clarion call of his people and resigned as Secretary to the State Government to contest the Governorship election of 2015, which he won overwhelmingly under the flagship of the Peoples Democratic Party. Mr. Udom Emmanuel was sworn in to office on May 29, 2015 and is servicing his first term in Office. Governor Udom Emmanuel re-contested for the Office of the Governor in 2019 under the Flagship of the Peoples Democratic Party and won his second term defeating Nsima Udo Ekere of the All Progressives Congress. Governor Udom Emmanuel and his wife, Martha, are the proud parents of four children.
