Alhaji Maina Waziri, the third son of the late Emir of Fika, Alhaji Muhammadu Ibn Idrissa was born at Potiskum in 1920. He started his early education at the Central Primary School Potiskum from 1929-1932UndMaiduguri Middle School from 1034-1941. Maina Waziri proceeded to the Borno Agricultural Training School in 1941 and later attended Clerical Train ing College, Zaria, 1949-50 and Deve lopment Secretary course in 1959. A great statesman, Maina Waziri entered the Political Arena as far back as 1943 when he joined the Nigerian Youth Movement (NYM) and later became President of North East Convention Peoples Party (NECPP) in 1956. In 1957,he became Fika Divisional President of the Nigerian Peoples Con gress (NCP) and was elected member of House of Representative. He was re-elected into the House of Representative in 1960 and became Parliamentary Secretary in the Tafawa Balewa regime in 1964 from where he ^ retired to farming after the Military ' take-overon 15th January, 1966. With the creation of Local Govern ments in 1976, he contested the elec tions into Fika Local Government Council and elected a Councillor. Alhaji Maina Waziri who also holds the traditional title of Makidibu of Fika was appointed a Director ofNige rian Engineering Construction Com pany Limited (NECCO) in 1972, mem ber of the Board of Directors of the Chad Basin Development Authority (CBDA) in 1978, and a member of Borno State Scholarship Board in 1976. He was also a member of the Borno State Public Accounts Commit tee. Following the lift ofban on politics _^ in 1978, he joined the Nigerian Peo ples Party (NPP) and later (GNPP) where he got elected as the Bomo State Chairman of the party, the post he was holding until his new appoint ment as Commissioner for Local Go vernment and Social Development. His hobbies include farming, hunt ing and photography. He is married and has six daughters and eight sons.
