AKINTUNDE, Hon. James Olajire

at me Local Authority Teacher Training College in Ibadan from where he obtained a Teachers' Grade II Certificate in June 1977. Even though a teacher by profession, Hon Akintunde has always been in politics at the local authority level. He was earlier introduced into politics by Chief S. L. Durosaro who was the organising secretary of the then Action Group. He later became a Councillor and the Chairman of the Ibadan South-West Action Group-controled District Council in the first Republic. Later, he became a member and Chairman of the Staff Committee of the then Ibadan Divisional Council. Hon. Akintunde also served many of the Military Division Sole Ad ministrators in an advisory capacity. For someone who has been involved in politics at the local level, it was not surprising that Hon. Akintunde has also served in many social circles. He was the Chairman of the Ibadan Divisional Civil Defence Committee as well as the Ibadan Divisional "Shasha League". He has, at one time or the other, been a member of the Ibadan Divisional Self-help Committee, the Oyo State Federation of Boys' and Girls' Club and Oyo State Chest Council respectively. He had also served as the treasurer of the Ibadan Zonal Federation of Boys'and Girls' Club. Hon. Akintunde was a member of the Oluyole Local Government Council represen ting the Orisunmbare ward as well as being the Chairman of the Unity Party of Nigeria for the Oluyole Local Government branch. He held these two posts until 1979 when he contested and won elecion into the House of Repsentatives on the Unity Party of Nigeria platform from Oluyole Constituency of OyoState. A christian by religion, Hon. Akintunde is married and has ten children. His hobby is far ming.
