He started his working career with one year compulsory service with Niger State Supply Company Ltd as Assistant Accountant in 1990. He joined NCR (NIG) PLC as Planning Executive in 1991 and joined Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria as Graduate Assistant in 1992. Professor Mainoma is a member of The Academy of Management Nigeria (TAMN), Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), Nigerian Economic Society (NES). Professor Mainoma was the President, Nigerian Accounting Association from 2002 to 2012. he was also President, Institute of Financial and Investment Analysts (IFIAN). He was Council Member, Nigerian Accounting Standard Board (NASB) now Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN). He was also a member, Nasarawa State Governing Council representing Senate. Professor Mainoma is currently a member of Governing Council of Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN).
