Femi TAIWO

Academia

Olufemi Taiwo is a professor of Africana Studies at Cornell University. He was a professor of philosophy and director of the Global African Studies Program at Seattle University in Washington. Professor Taiwo holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria. He earned a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Toronto. His book, "How Colonialism Preempted Modernity in Africa" (Bloomington: Indiana University Press, 2010) was a joint winner of the Frantz Fanon Book Award of the Caribbean Philosophical Association in 2015. He teaches undergraduate courses ranging from introduction to African Philosophy to Perspectives on Aid and Africa, Critical Race Theory, the Arab-African Spring, Introduction to Africana Studies and Freshman Seminar on Culture, Society and Globalization.
