A Public Health Educationist per excellence Professor Zacchaeus Akingbade Ademuwagun was born on 17 day February 1934 in Ode Aye, Ondo State. He started his education in at Methodist Primary School at Ode Aye, his home town in the old Western Region (now Ondo State). An alumnus of Wesley College, Ibadan (1949 -1952); - University College, Ibadan (1957-1962) ; - Boston University, U. S. A. where he obtained his Master’s Degree (MA) in Science Education and Cultural Foundation of Education. - Berkley, California. In 1965 he was awarded his Doctoral Degree (PhD) at the School of Public Health, Berkley, California. The Public Health Professor had an enriching academic career at Wesley College, Ibadan; Igbobi College, Lagos; Federal Advanced Teachers’ College, Lagos; University of Lagos (1966- 1972) and University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan (1972) where he retired in 1990 as a Professor and first Project Director (1972) - African Regional Health Education Centre (ARHEC)- A (WHO) World Health Organisation sponsored program in collaboration with the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, UCH, Ibadan and Federal Ministry of Health Nigeria. To date he remains and regarded as the Pioneer of Health Education in Africa and WHO specialist and voice on the subject matter in African. He served as a Consultant to the World Health Organization in many countries. In 1977, He became the first Professor for Health Education in Africa. The United States of America in 1983 as a special invited guest of the US state Health Department and Human Resources Washington, DC and Atlanta Georgia the city of Atlanta bestowed upon him citizenship of the state of Atlanta, Georgia USA in recognition of his outstanding work on Public Health Education globally. Between 1979 and 1983, he was appointed by the Ondo State Government as a Special Adviser on Health Education and Welfare; and Chairman Ondo State Health Management Board. University of Ado Ekiti - In March, 1981, Chief Ajasin as the Governor of Ondo State, announced the establishment a multi-campus university at the launching of 4th National Development Plan and constituted a 17-member Consultative Committee to work on the University blueprint. The late Educationist was a member of the committee and Project Director. In 1990, after his retirement from the University of Ibadan the Federal Government of Nigeria appointed him as chief consultant on Primary Health for the federation. Professor ZA Ademuwagun died peacefully in the early hours of Sunday, 16th January 2011 in Houston, U. S. A. with his wife and family beside him. He is survived by his wife, Olujoke (nee Popoola), His children, Deji, Atinuke, Segun, Toyin and Seun, grandchildren, brothers and a sister. Popularly called ZA, he was a lover of sports, music; he taught himself how to play the organ and played it most of his active years. He was an ardent organist and choir member at the Chapel of Resurrection, University of Ibadan.
