EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
In 1981, Dr. Adesina bagged a First class honours Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Economics fro University of Ife, Nigeria. In 1998, He completed his PhD in Agricultural Economics at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, United States, where he won an award for his Outstanding PhD Thesis.

President, African Development Bank Group (ADBG)
• 1990-1995: Served as a Senior Economist at West Africa Rice Development Association (WARDA) in Bouaké, Côte d’Ivoire.
• 1995-1998: Worked as Principal Economist and Social Science Coordinator at the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) in Mali.
• 1998-2003: Joined the Rockefeller Foundation as the Representative for Southern Africa and later became the Director of the Africa Program.
• 2003-2008: Appointed as Associate Director for Food Security at the Rockefeller Foundation.
• 2011-2015: Served as Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development under President Goodluck Jonathan.
• 2015: Became the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), becoming the first Nigerian to hold the position.
• September 2016, Adesina was appointed by United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, to serve as member of the Lead Group of the Scaling Up Nutrition Movement
• August 2020: Re-elected as President of the African Development Bank for a second term.
• 1985: Membership with the Nigerian Institute of Agricultural Economists (NIAE), reflecting his commitment to the advancement of agricultural economics in Nigeria.
• 1990: Membership with the International Association of Agricultural Economists (IAAE), showcasing his global engagement and expertise in agricultural economics.
• 2018, he was awarded an Honorary Doctor by Afe Babalola University.
• 2019: Grand Officer of the National Order of Merit of Tunisia.
• 2023: Doctor of Science by Veritas University Abuja
• May 14, 2022, he was awarded Honorary Doctor by Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia, for his contributions to the field of economics.
• March 2024, Adesina received an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Business Administration by Bayero University, Kano.

– Winner, Prestigious Rockefeller Foundation Social Science Post Doctoral Fellowship, 1988;
– Winner, The YARA Prize, for his Leadership in Pioneering innovative approaches to improve access to agricultural inputs for African Farmers, 2007;
-Recipient, The Cast Communication Award, as a Distinguished scientist, leader and communicator who worked for Africa Green Revolution, 2010;
– Appointed by United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, as one of 17 global leaders, along with Bill Gates, the Spanish Prime Minister and the President of Rwanda to spearhead the Millennium Development Goals, 2010;
– In 2013, Dr Adesina was named Person of the Year by Forbes Africa Magazine;
– Recognized as World Food Prize Laureate, 2017;
– Conferred with Honours by the Nigerian Defense Academy, October, 2018.
• 2013, he was named as Forbes Africa Person of the Year.: Recognized by Forbes magazine for his leadership and impact on African development.
• Adesina was cited as one of the Top 100 most influential Africans by New African magazine in 2015.
• World Food Prize: Awarded in 2017 for his significant contributions to agricultural development and policy in Africa.
• In 2019, he was again named as the Forbes Africa Person of the Year.
• On January 28, 2020, he was awarded Honorary Doctor of Science by the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Nigeria.
• Nobel Prize for Agriculture. On 29 February 2020
• African of the Year 2019 by one million readers of the African Leadership Magazine. On 14 December 2020
• On 2 February 2022, the President was conferred an Honorary Doctorate by the Federal University of Technology in Nigeria in recognition of his global leadership in agriculture, food security, development finance, and good governance
• Order of the Niger (CON): Conferred by the Nigerian government in recognition of his outstanding service and contributions to the country.
• Gene White Lifetime Achievement Award for Child Nutrition: Presented by the Global Child Nutrition Foundation for his dedication to improving child nutrition and food security.
• Sunhak Peace Prize: Awarded for his efforts in promoting global food security and poverty alleviation.
