EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
In 1981, Dr. Adesina bagged a First class honours Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Economics fro University of Ife, Nigeria. In 1998, He completed his PhD in Agricultural Economics at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, United States, where he won an award for his Outstanding PhD Thesis.

Dr. Adesina was Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development from 2011-2015. On May 28, 2015 he was elected President of the African Development Bank Group by the Banks Board of Governors in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivore during their Annual meeting however, he assumed office on September 1, 2015 at the Banks headquarters in Abidjan. He is mandated to serve an initial five-year term. Dr Adesina is a celebrated Development Economist and an International Agricultural Development Expert with an experience spanning over 25 years. He is on record as the first Nigerian to be elected President of the Bank Group.

• 1990-1995: Served as a Senior Economist at West Africa Rice Development Association (WARDA) in Bouaké, Côte d’Ivoire.
• 1995-1998: Worked as Principal Economist and Social Science Coordinator at the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) in Mali.
• 1998-2003: Joined the Rockefeller Foundation as the Representative for Southern Africa and later became the Director of the Africa Program.
• 2003-2008: Appointed as Associate Director for Food Security at the Rockefeller Foundation.
• 2011-2015: Served as Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development under President Goodluck Jonathan.
• 2015: Became the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), becoming the first Nigerian to hold the position.
• September 2016, Adesina was appointed by United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, to serve as member of the Lead Group of the Scaling Up Nutrition Movement
• August 2020: Re-elected as President of the African Development Bank for a second term.
