AHMADU, Mallam Ribadu

MBE, OON DAN GALADIMAN ADAMAWA FEDERAL MINISTER OF STATE FOR ECONONIC PLANNING He was born in Ribadu to AlkaliAtiku theAlkali ofRibadu/Balala in 1925. He started education at the Yola Elementary Schoolfrom 1932-1936. He thenproceededto YolaMiddleSchoolfrom 1936-40 andfrom 1940 1943, he was in the BauchiElementary Training Centrefrom where he obtainedthe Teacher Grade Three Certificate. MallamAhmadu Ribadu startedacareerin teaching in 1943. He taugh at the YolaJuniorPrimary Schoolbefore he became the Headmasterof JimetaJuniorPrimary Schoolfrom 1944 1948. He wasmadeavisiting Teacher, MuriNativeAuthorityfrom 1949 1950. He broke briefly to attend the Katsina Higher Teacher Training College between 1950 and 1952from where he obtainedthe Teacher Grade II Certificate. Once again, Mallam Ahmadu Ribadu returned to the teachingprofession as he taught in the Provincial Secondary School Yola in 1952. He was again made a visiting Teacher this time in the Adamawa Native Authority between 1954 and 1957. He was namedSchoolsManagerfortheAdamawaN\A in 1958. On thepoliticalfront, MallamAhmadu Ribadu wasaclosepoliticalassociate of thegreatAlhajiMahmudu Ribadu at the Emirate, North Regional and Federal Level. He won the 1959 Federal elections into the House of Representatives representing theAdamawa EastFederal Constituency underthe Northern Peoples Congress (NPC). In the cabinet changes thattookplace in 1965 afterMahmudu Ribadus death, AlhajiAhmadu Ribadu was named the Minister of State in the FederalMinistry of Economic Development. In the Second Republic thisgreat son of Adamawa also served the nation as NigeriansAmbassadorto theNigerRepublicandBurkina Fasso -ajob he diddiligently andmeritoriously. Lot.g afterStates were createdandmen of experience were soughtin the services, MallamAhmadu became one of such men,for in North Eastern State his wealth of experience was requiredin 1975 in the allimportantMinistry of Finance and Economic Planning as Commissioner. Again with diligence andsense ofprobity heperformed his duties till the end of that regime in 1979, member, North East Committee on Education and Orientation. Later he was made the Chairman, Governing Council of the College of EducationJalingo. Alhaji Ahmadu also is apermanent member of the Adamawa Emirate Council and Jama'atu Nasril Islam. On the 13th April, 2002, the Federal University of Technology, Yola conferredon him honorary Doctorate Degree formeritoriou service to his fatherland. HediedinMay, 2003.
