AKINBODE, Hon. Timothy Oguntuade

Born at Idoani in Owo division on 19th February 1932, Honourable Timothy Oguntuase Akinbode started his early education at the Holy Trinity School, Idoani his home place. His late father, Chief J. 0. Obarisay a trader, was born in 1892 while his mother Madam Emilia Olajutemu was born in 1909 at Idoani in the former Western Region of Nigeria. Honourable Akinbode attended the Methodist Teacher Training College, Ifaki Ekiti, from 1952-1955 and obtained his Grade III Teachers' Certificate. He became the head master of a number of primary school from 1954-1956. He pressed on further and gained admission to the Regional Teachers' Training College, Moor Plantation in Ibadan in 1956 where he successfully obtained his Grade II Teachers Certificate in 1957. Honourable Akinbode was admitted into the Rural Education College, Akure in 1963 and at the end of 1964 he received his Grade I Teachers Certificate. He became a Senior Tutor in 1964, and pro ceeded to a diploma course in 1968/69 at the University of Ibadan. He was promoted on his return to master Grade II in 1974. Not long after he was made Master Grade I, and a Senior Master in 1977 and 1978 respectively. Honourable Akinbode's early life was in fluenced by a particular incident — the first publication in 1951 of an Almanac of a team of Nigerian politicians proceeding to United Kingdom for a constitutional conference. His interest in politics was greatly aroused by this singular incident. He joined the Action Group and served in various capacities as secretary and chairman at local levels particularly the youth wing. From 1959-63 he was a Councillor at the Irekari District Council, and also member of the Education Board of the Council. Socially, Honourable Akinbode also distinguished himself. He has been the Presi dent of Idoani Students Union since 1958. He is the Secretary of the Idoani Community. He has been an executive member of the Nigeria Union of Teachers since 1968 — on State/Local Government levels. He is a member of the Ondo State Football Association and a member of the Owo Divi sional Co-operative.Produce Marketing Union. Honourable Akinbode is a christian and a local preacher of the Methodist Church Nigeria. He is the Financial Secretary of the llasa Arch- Diocesan Methodist Lay Men's Association of Nigeria and the President of the Ifaki Diocesan Methodist Youth Association of Nigeria. He was married to Miss Christiana Olufemi Ogunseitan on November 24, 1960, and together they have five children. Honourable Akinbode has visited Ghana and the Republic of Benin. His hobby is farming. He represents Owo Constituency II on the platform of the Unity Party of Nigeria, in the House of Representative.
