Akinyelure Patrick Ayo is a Nigerian banker who was elected to the Nigerian Senate for the Ondo Central district in Ondo State in the 9 April 2011 elections running on the Labour Party ticket.[1] Akinyelure Patrick Ayo is an approved tax practitioner of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.[2] He was Group Executive Chairman of the Allover Group, a microfinance lender, from 1994 to 2010. In January 2011 he denied that officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had investigated him over the withdrawal of the bank's licence by the Central Bank of Nigeria.[3] Patrick Ayo Akinyelure was Labour party candidate for the Ondo South Senatorial seat in April 2007. In July 2008 an Election Petition Tribunal in Akure nullified the election of Senator Gbenga Ogunniya of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) based on Akinyelure's petition.[4] Ogunniya succeeded in appealing this decision.[5] In the 9 April 2011 elections, Akinyelure ran again and this time was elected with 113,292 votes, ahead of Gbenga Ogunniya of the PDP with 41,783 votes. Senator Patrick Ayo Akinyelure is a member of the NABN Board of Directors and chief adviser on political affairs and finance on the NABN-TV platform. Senator (Dr.) Patrick Ayo Akinyelure, FCA, is a Chartered Accountant & Chartered Tax Practitioner by profession, a Fellow Member of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), Institute of Public Administration of Nigeria (IPAN), and Associate Member of the Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered). He was the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions. He was a member of the Senate Committee on Finance, Power and Steel Development, and the Committee on Public Accounts and ECOWAS Parliament of the 7th National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He was elected Distinguished Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and represented the Ondo Central Senatorial District. He has demonstrated his professionalism in the areas of Revenue Monitoring & Generation, Lecturing at the professional level, Tax Consulting, Accountancy & Audit practice over the years before he was elected as a Senator representing Ondo Central at the Upper Chamber of the 7th National Assembly. He believes in entrepreneurship skills of providing job opportunities for others, hence his past and present services to the public & private sectors of the Nigerian economy.
