Alhaji Abubakar Abutu was born on the 17th of January, 1937 at Ankpa. He is a native of Etutekpe Okpo, Olamaboro District in Ankpa Division of Benue State. He is a muslim by religion. He is one of the 24 children of his father Mr. Abutu Abuna, a farmer. His mother, Madam Eberi Udeh Abutu, also a farmer, had ten children. He got married to his wife Mrs. Salametu Abubakar Abutu on the 10th of February 1961. He is a father of 13 children. Alhaji Abutu attended the Holy Trinity School, Kano and passed Middle Two in 1955. He attended Afro-Asian Institute for Labour Studies in Tel-Aviv, Israel and has a diploma in Industrial Relations (1961). Alhaji Abutu attended the Labour College in Kampala in 1963 and the British T.U.C. College in 1968. He attended Extra-Mural Studies at Ibadan University in 1965; Industrial Relations Residential Course at the Ahmadu Bello Univer sity in 1971 and Functional Literature Studies at Ibadan University in 1978.. From 1957 to 1958, Alhaji Abutu was with the Kaduna Textiles Ltd., (K.T.L.) Kaduna. He was a Dispensary Attendant at Kadu na Textile Limited in 1960, and a Super visor from 1960 — 1969. He was a former General Secretary Northern Textile Workers Union (N.T.W.U.) from 1958 - 1962 and the National President N.T.G. and G.W.U. from 1962 - 1976. He was the First Vice- President, United Labour Congress from 1962-1975. He was a Director, Kwara State Printing and Publishing Corporation, llorin in 1976, and a former member of the Manage ment Board, National Provident Fund from 1969-1977. He later served as a member of the Board of Governors of Kaduna Polytechnic. Also he was the Former Supervisory Councillor for Finance and acting Supervisory Councillor of Education and Health and Social Services of Amkpa Local Government Area, from 1976 - 1979. . He won a seat as a member of the House of Representatives in the Ankpa South Consti tuency on the ticket of the National Party of Nigeria. Alhaji Abutu has visited West Germany, Switzerland, Britain, Holland, Brussels and In dia.
