-EMIR OF KANO MINISTER WITHOUT PORTFOLIO Alhaji Ado Bayero was bom in 1930, son of the Emir of Kano Abdullahi Bayero. He is the 56* Traditional Ruler of Kano and the 1f Fulani Emir. He was turbaned in 1964 though was appointed in 1963 after the death of his unck,EmirMohammedInuwa. He attended the Gidan Sarki Elementary Schoolfrom 1939 to 1942 then Kano Middk School which later became the Schoolfor Arabic Studies between 1942 and 1949. When he finished, hejoined the Bank of British West Africa where he worked till 1955. He then transferred to the Kano Native Authority as an Accountant in the Distria Administration office. LaterAJhaji Ado Bayero obtained aCertificate in Public Administrationfrom the Ahmadu Belk University Zaria in 1958. Butpriorto that he left the NAjob, contested and won an ekction into theNorthern House of Assembly in 1956 representingKano.lt is interestingto notethat"inthatekction, it"wasthegiantMalan Aminu Kano that he defeated He also became amember of the Northern Region Devekpment Corporation NRDC. Alhaji Ado Bayero became the Chief of Kano Native Authority Police in 1957 and later attended aSpecial Police Training in the UK in 1961. He was appointed Nigerian Ambassador to Senegal in 1962 the position he held up to his appointment to thethrone in 1963. Since his succession to the throne as Sarkin Kano in 1963, his kadership styk has been edified by Justice, Equity, Integrity, Excelknce and Commitment to the upliftment of traditional values and institutions. In addition to the duties of his traditional office, Alhaji Ado Bayero has also been the Chancelkr of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka from 1966 to 1975, Chancelkr, University of Ibadan since 1975 and Vice President of the International Association of University President since 1978.
