MP O.B.E SARKINDAWAKI MAITUTA, CHIEF WHIP FEDERAL HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, Malam Bello Dandago was born in Kano in 1908 to Jakadan Sankara. He started formal education in Kano Provincial School between 1922 and1927 and later went to Katsina Higher College between1927 and 1932. As mostof hispeersatthe time, he starteda career in teaching as he taught in the Middle Schoolfrom 1932 and 1941. Malam Bello Dandago (togetherwith AlhajiIsa Kaita) became the Norths pioneer International Broadcasters in 1941-44 when he was employed as Newscaster and Programme Officer deployed to broadcast the News of the war and effortsof the British Government later Studio Manager/(Broadcasting Officer RDS Kano 1944 1948. All about this time, Bello Dandago was an active participant in the new consciousness drive in Northern Nigeria. As oneof the region's eliteof the time, he was in theforefront of decision takingprocedures especially on matters affecting the politicalpositionof the North vis-a-vis theSouth. He was appointed Ward Head (Wakilin Waje) in charge of non-Hausa settlement including villages outside Kano from 1948 to 1952. He got a boost in the traditional office career when he was appointed Sarkin DawakiMai Tula, District Head of Gwaryv in 1952, he was elected into the Federal Houseof Representatives representing Gwar^p East under the platform of the NPC He later became the Deputy Speakerof the House. After the coupof 1966 which brutally terminated their government and some important Nigerians, Alhaji Bello Dandago reverted back to District Administration where he proved his worth asa leaderof men. Malam Bello Dandago was earlier in 1953 awarded the coronation medal. His experience was also called to service when he was named Member Hidson Commission of Inquiry on Provincial Authority sometime later he was again named the Chairman jointIndustrial Councilfos. His contribution to the developmentof social, political and cultural activities were not lost on the authorities for in 1959, Malam Bello Dandago was awarded the Officer of the British Empire O.B.E. As Government Chief Whip in the Housefora number ofyears, he combined his dedication to duty with his good senseof humour with which he neverfaikdto sway his colleagues to his party's side of the argument. He died in April, 1977asthe District Head of Jahun.
