MHA - WAZIRIN BIU - NORTH MINISTER OF INFORMATION, NATURAL RESOURCES AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT Alhaji Ibrahim Biu was born in Biu of the Old Borno Province in 1922. He did his Elementary School in Biu, between 1934 and 1938, then went to Borno Middle School, 1938 -1942 andendedup in the Kaduna TechnicalSchoolfrom 1943-1945. Later, he attendedTechnical Courses in the UnitedKingdom. Afterhis school, AlhajiIbrahim like mostof his peers, startedlifeasaSchoolTeacherin 1942, before he wentto theNA WorksDepartmentasTechnicalAssistant. By dint of hardwork, anddedication he rose through the ranks to become theNA Supervisorof Worksandin the same vein the Biu NA Councillor in charge of Works. Professionally undcrailed, he later became the Parliamentary, Secretary Ministry of WorksNorthern Regionfrom 1957-1960. Alhaji Ibrahim Biu who was notedfor hispolicy of politeness, amiability and serious mindedness was appointed Minister of Information in the Northern Regional Government in 1961. It was as Minister of Information thatAlhaji Ibrahim Biu made his mark in Northern Region atthe time theNorth neededamouthpiece of its own againsthostile Southern propaganda. It was in his time that both theBCNN'andNewNigerianNewspapers were started In his eyes, the North was a"Naticn ancient in history butyoung and virile in development; aland with its roots stretchingdeep into thepastyetwith branches reaching outtowards the sunshine of thefuture: alandofproudperformance and of infinitepromise:alandof tomorrow: that isNorthern Nigeria. Earlierthatyearin 1961, he hadwon an election into the Northern House of Assembly representing Bin Constituency under theplatform of the NPC. In March 1963,following a cabinet reshuffle in Northem Region, he was moved to the Ministry of Water Resources and Community Development. He was in thisposition untilJanuary 1966 when theirgovernment was brutally sacked and all of them lost their Ministerial positions. Following the creation of States in 1967, he returned to his North Eastern State where he was made the CommissionerforEducation when the State wasfurthersplit, he servedthe Borno State Governmentfirstas Chairman of the Civil Service Commission 1979 - 1984, and later Chairman Borno State Public Complaints Commission, 1986 - 92; Chairman, Assets Declaration Committee (The Code of ConductBureau) 1992 tillhis death inJanuary 2002. Alhaji Ibrahim Biu was turbaned the Wazirin Biu by the Emir of Biu, Alhaji Mustapha AH onJanuary 3rd, 1973.
