MHA, MP, OON MINISTER OF STATE, FEDERAL MINISTRY OF ESTABLISHMENTS MINISTER OF AGRICULTURAL AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau was born onJanuary 28, 1925 in Sokoto ofthepresent Sokoto State. He started his education with Gusau Elementary Schoolfrom 1931 to 1934 and attended CentralElementary School, Sokoto,from 1934to 1937andMiddleSchoolSokotofrom 1937to 1943. Healso attended'the ClericalTraining College, Institute of Administration, Zaria, between 1949 and 1950. He startedhis working careeras anAssistant Editor, Gaskiya Tafi Kwabo, between 1943 and 1944 and was SeniorAccountantandlaterChiefAccountant, Sokoto NativeAdministration, 1946-50. He waseleaedmemberof the Northern House ofAssemblyfrom 1953 to 1956 andmember, FederalHouse of Representatives, 1957 to 1966. He was Minister of State Federal Ministry of Establishments, 1965 and later Commissioner and member, Executive Council, North Western State, 1967 to 1975. He was Chairman, Sokoto Local Government 1976 and member ConstituentAssembly, 1977 and 1978. He became Chairman, Nigerian Grains Board, 1977 to 1979 and was later appointedMinisterof Agriculture andRuralDevelopmentin 1979. Moved to Agric in cabinet reshuffle in 1981. He was honoured by the University of Pittsboughfor his Educational andAdministrative leadership in streamlining the developmentofaProfessional Cadre ofPublicofficials in the oldNWSin Oaober, 1982. Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau was also member Steering Committee of the Sokoto State DevelopmentAppeal Fund fpor which he was honouredinjune, 1991. Honoured by the Sokoto State Governmentin recognition of his meritorious services,goodconduaandoutstanding contributions to theprocessanddevelopmentof thestate in 1995. He was awarded the insigma of the OON -Officer of the Order of the Niger by the Federal Government of Nigeria in November, 2002. He wasamember, Northern People's Congress (NPC) -theNorthern Party to which most of his compatriots belonged; the NationalParty ofNigeria (NPN) whichfirmedthe FederalGovernment which heserved between 1979 and 1983 andcurrently the PDP.
