REGIONAL MINISTER OF LANDS AND SURVEY; REGIONAL PRESIDENT OF THE NPC. Ibrahim Musa Gashash was born in Kanoin1910 toa wealthyArab traderof Ghadamsian extraction. From the beginning, he inherited immense wealthfrom his father who came to Nigeria on a transsaharan caravanfrom Tripoli. Ibrahim was a self educated man who in no time earned the repulationofa very learned maninArabic, Politics, History andLogic. In politics, he was thought to be the best strategist of theNPC in his time anda major supporterof the Sardauna inKano though the influenceof the then Emirof KanoSirMuhammadu Sanusi. Because ofhi immense wealth, he soon became the centralfigure among the Kano business class who must bolster the position of theNPC in the faceoffierceNEPU opposition in Kano. His commitment to theNPCas apolitical party was total as he used his time and resources to the advantage of the party. Perhaps this was instrumental to his election later as the Regional Presidentof the Northern Peoples Congress (NPC) and member, Northern House of Assembly. A trader, businessman and industrialist, he was a member of several bodies including the Federal Labour Advisory Board, and Northern Regional Development Board Hewas alsoa Directorof KCTCKano, Lionof Africa Insurance Company, MarketingBoard and Nigeria Cement Company. Ibrahim was also a widely travelled manasBoard meetings took himasfarasto France, Germany, U. K and the Netherlands inEurope and EgyptandSaudiArabia in the Middle East. On the death of the Sardauna, while most Ministers and top Civil Servants stayed away, Ibrahim Musa Gashash together with two other Ministers bravely attended the funeral defying the tense atmosphere of theperiod. Ibrahim Musa Gashash died on the 28th of November 1973.
