The Governor of Borno State, Alhaji Mohammed Goni was bom in 1941 at Kareto, Damasak in Kukawa Local Government Area of the State. He started his primary education in Damasak, then later attended Bomo Middle School (eventually converted to Borno Provincial Secondary School) from 1956-61 where he obtained the West African School Certificate. Alhaji Mohammed Goni then pro ceeded to Kano Government College in 1962 for his Higher School Certifi cate. Between 1964 and 1967, he was in the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and obtained a Bachelors Degree in Hiblic Administration in July, 1967. While in the University, he was President of the Students Union (Kongo) Institute of Administration in 1966 and President of the Borno Stu dents Union from 1962 to 1967. Alhaji Mohammed Goni first took up appointment with the Northern Nigeria Govemment, and upon crea tion of states in 1967, he was deplo yed to North Eastern State Public Ser vice where he served as Divisional Offi cer in charge of Katagum and Gombe Divisions from 1968 to 1970. And later in 1972, he became the first General Manager of North East Line Corporation. In 1977, he transferred his services to the Nigeria National Supply Com pany (NNSC) as Company Secretary and Administrative Manager, the post he held until his resignation for active partisan politics with the lifting of ban on politics. Before he resigned from the Nigeria National Supply Company, Alhaji Mo hammed Goniwaselected to represent Kukawa Local Government Area at the Constituent Assembly in 1978. Eventually, he became an active member of the Nigerian Peoples Party (NPP) and later Great Nigerian Peoples Party (GNPP) and then nominated to contest for Borno State Governorship, and victory he got. Alhaji Mohammed Goni is married with four children, three sons and a daughter. His hobbies include debating swimming, horse-riding and gardening.
