FEDERAL MINISTER OF STATE FOR AIR FORCE. Alhaji Muhammadu Gauyama was born to the Sarki Bai of Hadejia Malam Muhammadu in 1915. After the usual Islamic education, he attended the Kano Provincial School from 1922 1929 and went to Katsina Higher College from 1929-1933. He also had the benefit of the British Council UK study tour in 1949 before doing a heal government training at the Institute of Administration Zaria from 1955 to 1958. Armed with good education by the standards of his time, he started work first in the Divisional Office as Office Assistant from 1933 1935 and became Chief Office Scribe in Hadejia between 1936-1941. His traditional office career got a boost in 1941 when he was made a District Head in charge of Keffin Hausa with a traditional title of Sarkin Bai of Hadejia. He held the office of District Head till 1945 but in between, precisely in 1943, he added to his duties the Hadeji NA. Councillorship. In 1945, he was made the Madawakin Hadejia and District Head of Malam Maduri. On the political front Alhaji Muhammadu Gauyama was elected into the country's first House of Representative which sat from 1951-54; He also won an election into the Northern House of Assembly in 1956. His parliamentary career waxed stronger with his election once again into the Federal House of Representative in 1959. It was from this position that he was appointed Federal Minister of State in the Ministry of Defence to take charge of the Air Force in 1965. Earlier, the Madawakin Hadejia had held important positions in the North Regional Government. They included membership of theNorthern RegionalGroundnutRepresentative Committee and Northern Regional Marketing Board in 1957 and 1958 respectively. After the 1966 coup which sacked their government, he returned home and served as a Senior Member of the Emir's Council. He was again called to the centre stage of activities when behveen 1969 and 1972 he served the new Kano State Government as the Commissioner of Finance. Alhaji Muhammadu it was who was saddled with the responsibility of nurturing the new Ministry to conform with the requirements of the new Military Government. He did his job with excellent finesse as a testimony to the thoroughness with which his peers in the old North performed any duty.
