Like his peers, he acquired both Islamic and western education up to Middk Your and on kaving school in 1949, he started working with the Katagun Native Authority as Central Office Scribe during which he attended various local government courses inthe United Kingdom and many other centers in the North. It was whik still serving the Native Authority that Alhaji Muhammadu Kabir decided to participateinpolitics since it was normalpracticeat that time to be partoftheNA. system and beapolitician. He therefore, joined the popular party N.P.C. He waxed strong in thisfield and, as a result, he won ekction into thefirst ekaed Northern House of Assembly in1952 representingKatagunNorth. The sameyear, he was appointed the Distria Headof Sakuwa. His star was to shine brighterfouryears later when he was calkdupon to serve a bigger distria and conferred with the titkof Ciroman Katagun. Alhaji Muhammadu Kabir's political fortune rose in 1956 when he was re ekaed into the House of Assembly after another general ekction s. Ayear later, up the political ladder, he was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the MinistryofLands andSurvey. In the sameyear, he moveda step higher, when he waspromotedto the statusof Ministerof State. Thereafter, he aaed ina numberof MinistriesasMinister before becomingafull Minister himselfin1960posted to take charge of the Ministry of InternalAffairs. He retainedhis ministerialposition up till the military putsch which suspended political activitiesin the country. AlhajiMuhammadu Kabir's interestin Horses and Polo can be saidto be natural having been bom into a royal family. But his interestin sports generally dates back to his school days. In school, he was captain of the hockey team, a member of the schoolfirsteleven and also won colorsinmany events including the 100yards racein which he broke the school record ' Heis currently theEmirof Katagumin the present Bauchi State.
