MHA, MON., GCON., MBE, CBE, FIRST INDIGENEOUS GOVERNOR OF NORTHERN NIGERIA AND CENTRAL MINISTER OF SOCIALSERVICES Born on 10th July, 191 Oat Gargar Ward in Maiduguri, the former provincial headquarters of Bomo Province now Borno State, SirKashim was a Kanuri and sonof Late Malam Ibrahim Lukkana SirKashim Ibrahim was a manof two worlds. Apartfrom his Western Education he was also well learned in Arabic and in theQur'an. The Statesman started his primary education at the Bornu Privincial School in 1922. He was admitted from primary five in the famous Katsina Teachers College in 1925, from where he obtained his Grate II Teachers Certificate. After a brilliant scholastic career at Katsina Teachers College, SirKashim becamea Teacherforfouryears at the Borno Primary School, which later became the Borno Middle School. In 1933, he was appointed the first Provincial Visiting Teacher in Bornu. Afterspendingfivejears as a Visiting Teacher, SirKashim was promoted to the post of Senior Visiting Teacher and in 1942, he was appointed the Shehu of Bornu's Representative for the education department. Later in 1947, he became the Provincial Education Assistant for Borno Province. Sir Kasbim acted as the Borno Provincial Education Officer on several times before he was promoted to the substantiverankin 1949. Sir Kashim's national political career dates back to 1946, when he was nominated as the special member representing education interests in the Northern House of Assembly. In 1950, he took part in the Constitutional Conference atlbadan, which led to the review of the Macpherson 's Constitution. He contested the election under the new Constitution in 1951 on the platform of the Northern Peoples' Congress and was then returned by the Northern House of Assembly to the Federal Houseof Representatives
