Honourable Alhaji Umaru Mohammed was born on 5th April 1945 at Gumel. He had his early elementary education at Sule Tankarkar Primary School from 1958 to 1964 and obtained Primary Seven Certificate. Honourable Alhaji Umaru Mohammed went further from 1965-1969 to obtain the Teachers Grade II Certificate at Teacher's College, Bichi. In the same School in 1973, Honourable Alhaji Umaru Mohammed served as the Head master for the Primary Seven School and in 1976, he was posted to the school again as a visiting teacher. After a brilliant career as a teacher, he resign ed in 1976 for the local government election and was elected as the Supervising Councillor for Gumel Local Government. Honourable Alhaji Umaru Mohammed is married to two wives and they have five children. He is one of the 30 children of Alhaji Moham med Mayaki, a businessman from Gumel, and Hajiya Mimuna a housewife, who had 10 children out of the 30 children in the family. Honourable Alhaji Umaru Mohammed has travelled widely. Among the places visited were Niger Republic, Saudi Arabia and America. His hobbies include volley-ball. Honourable Mohammed, a member of the National Party of Nigeria, represents the Gumel North Constituency of Kano State in the House of Representatives.
