MHA, OFR, PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY AND PROVINCIAL COMMISSIONER Alhaji Zanna Umara Benisheik was bom in 1919 atMargubu, Kaga Local GovernmentArea, Bomo State. He attendedjuniorPrimary School, Benisheik. He was also educated at Yerwa Elementary SchoolandBomo MiddleSchoolfrom 1928-1938. Heworkedwith theBomoNativeAuthority WorksDepartmentand'wasSupervisor of WorksDepartmentbetween 1940-1960. Alhaji Zanna Umara tested hispopularity when he stoodfor election and won under the banner of the NPC into the Northern House of Assembly. He was appointed Parliamentary Secretary in the Office of Premier, Northern Nigeria in 1960. He was also appointedProvincial Commissioner of Adamawa Provincefrom 1962-1966. The 1966brutalcoup which terminatedtheirgovernmentcouldnotdeterhimashispeoplefoundhim relevantat home. He was reappointedBomo NA Supervisor of Worksfrom 1966 to 1969 and appointed DistrictHead of Yerwafrom 1969 to 1975. He was transferred to Kaja as DistrictHeadfrom 1976 to 1980. Repostedto Yerwa as DistriaHeadfrom 1980 to 1984. Zana Umara Benisheik, now an accomplished Traditional Leader in 'his own light was transferred to Maidugurias DistriaHeadfrom 1984 to 1988. Alhaji Zanna retriedfrompublicservice in 1988 after48years of service. He was arecipient of National Honour of the Officer of the Federal Republic (OFR) in 1965. He was respectedfor his total devotion to duty and transparent honesty. Utile wonder that the Sardauna recognised these qualities by appointinghim to one ofthe reverredpositions ofProvincialCommissioner. He diedon 4th February, 2001.
