FIST NORTHERN PHARMACIST BorninMakargiof Zaria Emirate ofKaduna State in 1911, befirst went to school in 1922, then to Zaria Provincial School in 1924 and Katsina Higher College in 1927. Alhaji Adamu Dikko was among thefirst batch of pharmacy students when the Zaria Pharmacy School was opened in 1930. When he qualified as a despenser in 1934, he immediately began to teach there. Twoyears later, he was transferred to Yaba. He was in the School of Pharmacy for seventeenyears as ateacher and later asaPrincipal of the School. Because he has been therefor so long one tend toforget that he was one of the early recruitsfor nation-wide service. He taught at the Yaba School ofpharmacyforfifteenyear between 1936 and 1951. His meritorious service was rewarded with the award of the member of the Order of the Federal Republic (M.F.R) in 1964. He retiredfrom the School of Pharmacy on March 23, 1968 and joined the Zaria Native Authority as parttime Councillor. Alhaji A.B. Dikko was successful as the Head of the School that in 1967, there was ageneral clamourfor making the institution as part of the institute of health of the ABU. This request was granted ayear later. The institute marshalled the training ofMedical' andpara-medicalpersonnel. The Father of Modern Pharmacy in Northern Nigeria, as Consillorforfinance in the ZariaNA assisted the Emirs Especially Mallam Jafaru Dan Isiyaku in Building a virile local system of administration. In 1968, after the creation of states, he was appointedpermanent commissioner in the North Central State Commission. He also served as thefirst Executive Chairman of the Kaduna Capital Development BordKCDB between 1970 and 1975 where he saw to the duali^ation of the Ahmadu Bello way, Implementation of the Malali layoutplan, provision of light on Major streets and supervision of modern road tarring works. Alhaji Adamu Dikko also served with distinction as the Executive Chairman ofthe Kaduna State Scholarship Boardfrom 1975 to 1979. He died on the 26* of Aprils 1979.
