BASSEY, Sen. Gershom Henry

Senator Gershom Henry Bassey was born on March 18, 1962. He is a native of Calabar South Local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria. An accomplished Engineer and businessman, he is a distinguished alumnus of the Cardiff University, Manchester University and Brunnel University, all in the United Kingdom; and has attended other prestigious academic institutions such as the Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States of America as well as the prestigious London Business School. He has made the attainment of a better society his focus in life bringing this to bear in the different positions he has held amongst which include; Chairman, Cross River State Water Board Limited where he led the company to achieve outstanding recognition in the water sector within the country and outside. This led to his induction as a Fellow of the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers (NICE) and receipt of an Award of Recognition from the Nigerian Society of Engineers. He has also been a director in several other reputable companies and is widely travelled. The Senator is also an accomplished political leader who has served meritoriously in various capacities at both the state and federal levels, currently; he is the Senatorial representative of Cross River Southern Senatorial District and in the Senate he is the Vice Chairman, Senate Committee; Petroleum Resources (Upstream) and member of several other Senate Committees. Senator Gershom Bassey is a devout Christian and committed member of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria. He is Chairman of the Cross River State Basketball Association and an active participant of the Carnival Calabar through his championship winning band Masta Blasta. He has received many awards including The National Disabilities Vanguard: Excellent Person Personality of the Year Award 2016, Federal Government Sokoto Golden Jubilee Award for Old Students’ in recognition of his services to his Alma Mata, the nation and humanity among many others. He is happily married to Dr. (Mrs.) Chioma Gershom-Bassey and they are blessed with Children.
