Date of Birth: 1951 State of Origin: Imo Engr Christopher Emeka Ekwebelem was born in 1951 at Umuahia Abia State Nigeria. He is the Chairman of Karisto IndustrialSystems Limited. an indigenous engineering company which produces switch-boards, mechanical and manual change-over switches, electric motor starters, central motor control boards for production of lines, feeders pillars, automatic synchronizing boards, cranking panes, street lights, control Kiosks as well as integrated industrial type voltage stabilizers, among others. Engr Ekwebelem is an inventorand creative engineer who made the breakthrough in 1982 when he commencedthe development and production of the Automatic Mains Failure (AMF) which is a solution to the unsteady power supply in Nigeria. In 1983.he concluded the development of the AMF. usingelectro-magnetically device knownto withstand mostof the adverse tropical conditions as against the non-tropicalised imported ones. Henamed the new product Karisto AMF. In recognition of this feat, the Federal Government awarded him the patent right in 1986. Schools Attended • St Michael's Primary School Rumumasi. For instance, he • Designed . built and installed all the switch gears in use at the Sam Mbakvve Airport Owerri • The installation of the Precision Approach Path Indicator. (PAPI)which guides an on-coming aircraft to glide down to the touch zone of the airport runway • Manufacturing of equipment locally for the Imo BroadcastingCorporation (1BC) Owerri. He has served as a Consultant or contractor to many Corporate Organisations eg. Mobil Producing. Shell Petroleum, FM, Akwa Ibom State. FM Bauchi, F.M Cross River, among others. His organisation has employed over 200 Nigerians in various fields. He has contributed to several Charitable Projects and financed so many others. He has demonstrated that contributions of great honour do not necessarily depend on highly complex Western methods. He has shown that he is an ICON ol" Hope to the youths who would like to excel in any chosen course. EngrEkwebelem's breakthroughs have now shown that the Igbo arc still on the lime light of productive invention in our community.
