Zainab Gimba was born in Kala town in Borno State, Nigeria. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Administration from the prestigious University of Maiduguri in Nigeria. She obtained her masters degree in the same field from the same University of Maiduguri. Because of her passion for education, she proceeded to University of Abuja where she completed her PhD in Public Administration and Policy Analysis ​in 2008. She has attended Professional courses and holds a Professional computer certification course at the Computer Centre of University of Maiduguri. After completing her first degree, she participated in the compulsory National Youth Service Corps at Government House, Damaturu, Yobe State​​ between 1999-2000 National Service Year. Dr Zainab Gimba was employed as a lecturer at the Department of Public Administration, University of Maiduguri​ in 2002. In 2011, The Governor of Borno State Kashim Shettima appointed her as Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation and Youth Empowerment from 2011-2014. She was re-appointed as Honourable Commissioner, Universal Basic Education Board​ from 2014-2015. She was again appointed Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Water Resources from 2015 - October 2018. Zainab is the Nigeria’s House of Representative Member to represent Ngala, Bama and Kala Balge constituency. She is a Fellow, Chartered Institute of Public Diplomacy and Management, Nigeria; Fellow, Institute of Management Consultants; Fellow, Certified Institute of Management and Member, International Research and Development Institute, as well as Fellow institute of Management specialist all in Nigeria. Zainab is a member of Development Studies Association (DSA), United Kingdom. She holds a Certificate of merit award by national association of Nigerian students (NANS) University of Maiduguri for diligent and honest service she rendered to the union. Gimba is a recipient of many honours and award certificates which include; Certificate of Merit Award conferred to her by National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Yobe state in recognition of her excellent performance in Community Development Services during her national service. A recipient of Distinguished merit award of the Moonlight Newspaper for outstanding contribution to the development of Borno state in 2012. She also received the most distinguished award of the International Women’s Day’s award of the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria for her role and voice in pressing for the progress of the Nigerian women in March 2018. In March 2018, the organised labour, Nigeria Labour Congress recognises her for her role in the empowerment and emancipation of vulnerable women in Borno state and Nigeria at large. Zainab was awarded leadership award of excellence by Rotary club of Maiduguri city in April 2018. Award of excellence by Ngala students association (NGALSA) for her humanitarian service in April, 2018. The West Africa Water Expo recognized her for her support to West Africa WAWE Expo 2018. An award of excellence was presented to her by the SWOT foundation in November 2018 in recognition of her humanitarian services. The Association of Northern Nigeria students youths’ Award of Excellence 2018 presented to her as Sardauna legacy award for Icon of hope of a Nigerian Youths. Honor Award was presented to her by North East star-our Nigeria Newspaper as Female politicians the year. The Trade Union council Nigerian Women Commission presented her with award of honor for her selfless efforts in the empowerment of women and the girl child. A certificate of honor was awarded to her by the Maulidun Nabiyyi SAW committee of Mohammed Goni College if Legal and Islamic studies, Borno State in recognition of her meritorious service to Islam. She is a recipient of an excellence leadership award by the African Youth Parliament 2020. A 2018 pioneer Gold Merit award was conferred on her by the International Institute for social reformation, Democracy and good Governance USA. Honorary fellowship award was presented to her by the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers 2020. Zainab was elected chairperson Commonwealth Women parliamentarians African region at the commonwealth parliamentary conference at Zanzibar Tanzania in August 2019 And subsequently elected vice chairperson Commonwealth Women parliamentarians International in September 2019 at Kampala during international Conference.
