SHERA, Hon. Alhaji Muhammadu

Hon. Alhaji Muhammadu Shera, the National Party of Nigeria member for Birnin — Kebbi in the House of Representatives, is one of the nine children of Alhaji Muhammadu Maccido, a farmer at BirninKebbi and Madam Amina. Born on 11th January, 1922, he attended Bir nin Kebbi Elementary School from 1930 to 1934, Sokoto Middle School from 1934 to 1939, Barewa College, Kaduna town 1939 — 1942 and the Veterinary School, Vom, Jos from 1942-1945. He was appointed 3rd class Veterinary Assis tant on 1st May, 1945 followed by promotions to various ranks in junior service grades till 1955 when he was offered scholarship to study Animal Husbandary in the United Kingdom at the Golden Grove Farm Institute, Wales, 19551959. On the day of his arrival from U.K., he was promoted to the rank of Veterinary Technical Officer which is the first Senior Service Grade on 15th July 1957. He subsequently held the posts of Livestock Officer, Livestock Superintendent and retired as Senior Animal Husbandary Officer after thir ty years of continuous service. He went into Local Government politics and was appointed member, caretaker committee for Birnin — Kebbi Local Government from Oc tober 1976 to December 1976 and the Super visory Councillor for Administration and Health from January 1977 to June 1979. He is a muslim and has five children. He has travelled widely in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. His hobbies are hunting, racing and reading.
