ABEGUNDE, Hon. Babatunde Joseph

Hon. Babatunde Joseph Abegunde was born at Aisegba-Ekiti, Ondo State in 1947. He cultivated the idea of self reliance from youth due to his emulation of his parents, par ticularly his father who was always determined to make a success of every task before him. His father, Mr. Solomon Abegunde, a farmer at Aisegba-Ekiti has eight chidlren while his mother Madam Felicia Olarinmade, a trader, had three children. Hon. Babatunde Abegunde attended the Holy Trinity School Aisegba-Ekiti from January 1954 to 1960 to obtain the First School Leaving Certificate. . ' . He gained admission into St. Jude's Secon dary Modern School, Aisegba-Ekiti in January 1961 and left the school in 1962 for the Gram mar School, Ifaki-Ekiti, from 1963-1967, where he passed the West African School Certificate Examination in 1967. He attended the llesha Grammar School, IIesha from 1968 - 1969 and obtained his Cam bridge University Higher School Certificate. Hon. Abegunde enrolled at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1970 and three years later in June 1973, he received his Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) Degree in Journalism. Later on, bet ween September 1976 and January 1977, he studied at the Institute of Development Studies of the University of Sussex, Brighton, England. He took up employment with the Federal Ministry of Information (Cultural Division) in 1976, as an Assistant Editor and Cultural Officer Grade I. He moved to the U.A-C. of Nigeria in 1977 as Publications Manager. He was also, between 1977 and 1979 an adviser on publishing to many professional bodies. Hon. Babatunde Joseph Abegunde is a christian and has a wife and three children. He is a member of the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) and was elected into the House of Representatives from the Ekiti East Constituen cy- He has published several articles in the Nigerian newspapers; and in cultural and in dustrial magazines. He has visited Cameroun, Benin Republic, Niger, Angola and the United Kingdom. His hobbies ' are traditional music and reading.
