SWEN, Hon. Edward Kundu

Hon. Edward Kundu Swen was born in 1930 at Mbaayam, Ukan-Mbagwa Local Govern ment Area of Benue State. He is a Christian. He attended Abuul Elementary School from 1938 to 1941. Between 1942 and 1945 he at tended Middle School, Katsina Ala. He also went to Christ the King College in 1945. Hon. Edward K. Swen obtained his Middle Four certificate in 1945 and his B.A. (Intermediate) in Theology 1949. After school, his first appointment was with the Ministry of Agriculture as an Agricultural Assistant. He was in the Ministry till 1952 when he resigned his appointment to participate in politics. He was a member of the House of Representatives in the first republic from 1960 to January 1966. Due to his hardwork while he was representing his people, he was re-elected in 1979 to the House of Representatives. He married his two wives, Madams Angolave and Imokegh under native law and custom and they are blessed with five children. Countries he has visited include Western Germany, Italy, Britain and Canada. His hob bies are hockey, reading and gardening. Hon. Edward K. Swen was to become a Reverend Father, but after spending about four years in the seminary his mother objected to his she was against his son becoming a priest. As a result, he was withdrawn from the seminary. Hon. Edward K. Swen, despite the odds against him, still wants to pursue his B.A. degree by tuition, and believes strongly that he can make it since his brain is still active. His father, Mr. Kundu Swen who was a con tractor and farmer at Mbaanyam had twelve children. He represents the National Party of Nigeria for Kwande West Constituency, Benue State in the House.
