Hon. Joel Abu represents Bassa Dekina Con stituency Benue State in the House of Representatives. He is a member of the Na tional Party of Nigeria. He was born on June 12, 1940 at lyale, Benue State. He is a christian. Hon. Abu is one of the eight children of Mr. Abu Edicha and Madam Omada Edicha. His father was a farmer and his mother a trader. He first attended the Igala N.A. Primary School, lyale in 1953 and later went to the Senior Primary School, Ayangba from 1957 to 1958. He then proceeded to the School of Nursing, Teaching Hospital Kaduna in 1961 and became a staff nurse in 1964 after completing his train ing. After many years of service, he was pro moted to the rank of Nursing Superintendent in 1976. Hon. Abu held this post until 1979 when he resigned to go into politics. He got married in 1962 to Marry Abu and they have five children. His hobby is farming.
