HAMZAT, Hon. Alhaji Shehu

Hon. Alhaji Shehu Hamzat was born in 1951 at Tangaza Town of Sokoto State. He is a member of the Federal House of Represen tatives and he represents Sokoto Constituency of Sokoto State. He is a member of the Na tional Party of Nigeria. Alhaji Hamzat's father, Mr. Hamza Muham madu, is a traditional ruler in Sokoto. He was born in 1925 and has three wives and 23 children. His mother Alhaja Aishatu Hamzat is from Tangaza and was born in 1938. She has three children. After tne successful completion of his primary school at Tangaza Day Primary School from 1957 to 1964, he went to Government Craft School from 1965 to 1966. He also attend ed the Sultan Abubakar College, Sokoto from 1966 to 1971. He has a Teachers' Grade II Cer tificate. He went to Kaduna Polytechnic in 1977. He also has a diploma in Local Govern ment Administration. He was headmaster under Jama'Atu Nasril Islam Provincial Headquarters, Sokoto, from 1972 to 1974 after which he was made a Local Government Inspector. From that post, he became a community development organiser. Between 1975 to 1976 he was the Local Government Secretary under the Sokoto Local Government. Later, he was made a Staff Officer before he was promoted Principal Assistant Secretary. Alhaji Hamzat also served as the head of the Administrative Department. With the introduc tion of Local Government Reforms, he became the Secretary to the Local Government Council in Silame Local Government. He was serving in the capacity till 1978 when he resigned to par ticipate in politics. Alhaji Shehu Hamzat is a moslem and his hobbies include reading and attending social gatering.
